Move Sage Without
Guessing at Cutover.
Cloud migration, version upgrade, or platform move: the risk is rarely the server copy. It is data validation, user access, integrations, reporting, and the first trading day after go-live.
Different moves, different evidence
The migration plan changes depending on what is moving, how much history matters, and where operational risk sits.
Existing Sage is kept functionally familiar while infrastructure, access, backup, and support ownership move to a managed model.
Server specs, database size, user count, branch access, backup history, integrations.
Older Sage environments are lifted to a supported release with regression testing around reports, customisations, and critical workflows.
Current version, add-ons, custom reports, modified screens, known defects, test users.
Legacy ERP or another Sage product is mapped into the target operating model before data migration begins.
Chart of accounts, item/customer/vendor masters, open transactions, history needs, reporting pack.
Cutover sequence
The weekend plan is written before the weekend starts.
Cutover should not depend on memory, heroic effort, or last-minute calls. Every step needs an owner, timing, validation point, and rollback condition. Rollback criteria are agreed in advance, while everyone is calm, so the go/no-go decision stays clear if validation uncovers a serious issue.
- 01
Freeze window
Agree what can still change before migration, who approves exceptions, and how urgent transactions are handled.
- 02
Dry run
Load migrated data into a test environment, reconcile balances, run reports, and test integrations before the live weekend.
- 03
Final sync
Export final data, apply deltas, validate user access, confirm integrations, and keep rollback criteria visible.
- 04
Business validation
Finance, operations, and IT confirm opening balances, orders, inventory, reports, and user access.
- 05
Hypercare
Track issues by severity, protect month-end, and separate migration defects from future enhancements.
Data is only migrated when the business can trust it
Successful migration is measured by reconciliation and user confidence, not by whether files were imported.
Finance
Opening balances, AP/AR ageing, tax setup, bank accounts, dimensions, exchange rates.
Operations
Inventory quantities, lot/serial data, open orders, procurement, warehouse process, production status.
Reporting
Management reports, statutory outputs, dashboards, scheduled extracts, board packs.
Integrations
Banking, payroll, ecommerce, WMS, EDI, BI tools, third-party APIs, file drops.
Field note, anonymised
“The dry run changed the project. We found reporting and inventory issues before cutover, fixed them in test, and the live weekend became a controlled sequence instead of a gamble.”
